Ballad of my middle fingernail

My middle fingernail started wiggling a few weeks ago. Two months after I slammed and shut it in a car door, it seemed my nail was ready to break free.

“My nail is wiggling,” I told my dad. “When it falls off I’m going to put it under my pillow. Do you think the Nail Fairy will come?” My dad laughed and laughed and in fact, didn’t stop laughing until this past weekend. That’s when my nail finally came off.

The Nail Fairy didn’t come. Maybe next time. Until then, here’s the ballad of my middle fingernail.

Peace, man. Chinatown in San Francisco, where the ballad begins…

…before moving to a bathroom in Sacramento. Shana and I tried to relieve the pressure in my finger by burning a hole in my nail.

Shana and I will soon be applying to med school. Donations accepted.

Success! For a second I had a tiny geyser on my fingernail. This is when I had to stop taking pictures and let Shana take over.

Hmmm…it’s an interesting thing, having a hole in the center of your finger.

The hole was there for two months. Our bodies are amazing machines.

Together again: Growing nail + middle finger = Happy Middle Finger

(Half the photos are by Shana Lynch. Let’s see how many of her pictures I can get up on this blog.)
